11 May 2005
The organizers of YAPC::EU::2005 would like you all to know how things are going.
This is report #8 and here are some details:
The posters have been printed
We have printed the posters and we're now starting to distribute some of them through some Portuguese companies and universites.
Outcome Technologies is sponsoring
Outcome Technologies has joined the ranks of YAPC::EU::2005 organizers, for which we are very grateful (this will make yet another surprise for the conference possible).
Registration now open
We have opened registration, as you might have noticed by a previous special report. Go to http://conferences.yapceurope.org/2005 and register there. Also, upload a picture (I'll do that too), if possible.
Remember, attending the conference costs 89 euros (the online payment is not available yet, but should be very soon – IT WASN'T AT THE TIME FOR THIS REPORT, IT IS AVAILABLE NOW); if you're a speaker (at the moment there are no speakers but there will be soon (I hope)), your registration is free (this does not include lightning talk speakers, though).
New way of submitting talks
It's through Act, also at http://conferences.yapceurope.org/2005. In fact, we've been taking all the talk proposals we got by email and adding them there, to easen up the upcoming task of approving and schedulling talks. We've not gotten through the Wiki proposals yet, so feel free to add your own in Act. Remember, talk proposal deadline is 15th May (next Sunday).
There will be lightning talks! [insert sound of thunder here]
Geoffrey Avery will be taking care of the lightning talks session. He's already put up a page for them on the Wiki: LightningTalks.
[insert more sound of thunder here]
The Hotels have been announced
A special report a couple of minutes ago announced the designated hotels for the conference. Book as soon as possible (just in case, you know?). The Wiki page for the hotels has also been updated. It's at BragaHotels
Wanna go camping instead?
Braga has a camping park. You can find more information about it at Camping.
Oh, and we also working on allowing people to go to the Students' Residence, which oughta be cheaper than a hotel and closer than the camping park. Stay tuned.
Festivities nearby the conference
We've added a page to the Wiki concerning festivities that take place sometime nearby the conference. It's at Festivities. This page is nothing near complete, but it's a start...
Behind the scenes action:
And that's it for now.
As always, the organizers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
